The vexed question of commentaries and interpretation.

The big argument against the use of commentaries is of course , they say, they only need the Bible and the Holy Spirit. And that then puts them above everyone else. As if they are being led by the Holy Spirit then of course they cannot be wrong. And then cannot be challenged. Of course if they are being led by the Holy Spirit then I guess one would do well to hear them. But I would argue it is still my responsibility to “test everything”.
