PHILOSOPHY

If the will to power is one of the primary movers of mankind. Surely philosophy must come into it sooner or later. Why destroy a country? Why kill people? Why spend 650 billion on a war? If or even since,Jesus the Christ has destroyed the works of the devil, how come the evil that men do lives on and on?

1Jo 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

The works of the devil do not seem to be destroyed to me. Only the other day there was a drive by shooting in a Church at a funeral and a seven year old girl was seriously injured. If that aint evil I dont know what is. So it is surely quite obvious to anyone that the works of the devil are patently NOT destroyed, or certainly in this realm anyway. They may be destroyed elsewhere, or destroyed by faith, but still, in this realm here and now the evil that men do lives on and on. This would then seem to logically contradict the Bible teaching.

Some would of course say, that if the Bible does not make sense, then the problem lies not in the Bible but in us. We do not understand. If this is the case then obviously we or is it only I, do not fully comprehend what is meant by destroying the works of the devil.

Or further still, if war is regarded as a great evil,then one of the current conflicts currently raging as I write this is the conflict in the Ukraine. If this is regarded as a work of the devil, then in this realm , the work of the devil has not been destroyed.

Or perhaps the meaning of the verse is that the destruction of the devils work lies still future. Which means that the devil gets his come uppance at the return of Christ, and not before. The evil that men do lives on and on until Christ Jesus Returns.

So how is one to approach the Bible? The Bible exists. It is literature.But more than literature. It makes certain claims. It claims to have been under the inspiration of God Almighty Himself.
